Class Warfare

February 11, 2011

From here:

One thing that even the dim bulbs in the media should understand by now is that there is in fact a class war going on, and it is the rich and powerful who are waging it. Anyone who does anything that empowers the little people or that threatens the wealth and power of the plutocracy must be destroyed. There is a reason for these clowns going after Think Progress and unions, just like there is a reason they are targeting wikileaks and Glenn Greenwald, Planned Parenthood, and Acorn. To a lesser extent the fail parade that was the Daily Caller expose on Journolist was more of the same.

Is there really a class warfare going on?

I mean, sure there is. Since wealth is only relative, and wealth is status, the plutocrats all share an interest in keeping everybody who is not one of them down. But an interest in something does not mean one will act on it. I may want to fuck, but I sure as hell won’t go to the cutie there and risk getting rejected. That’s because my ego is more important to me than my happiness, because when i say ‘ego’, I mean status.

But let’s forget that for a second. Let’s also forget dialectical materialism. It makes sense to define class socioeconomically, but that won’t really tell us anything. Because the existence of something is irrelevant if you don’t talk about it. The interesting question is: Do people construct political players aligned with class? The answer is no.

This idea apparently has a name (Cultural Hegemony). But you don’t need to be a Marxist to understand what’s going on. If class exists, but people don’t construct their worldview around the concept, then it will not be resolved. The consequence of that is fascism. It happened before, it will happen again, and it was a farce every time.

The reason this can happen is not because the rich and powerful (redundant) are forcing it to happen. They are not using force to make people believe this. The thought police is you, not them. People are too busy hating each other and dividing society on values instead of interests. On identity instead of interests. Identity is ego, which again is status, which is defined by your milieu, which aligns with cultural divisions in a society, not class.

But what are the classes anyways? If we take what I said above (class aligns with interests) as a definition, what are the interests of people?

Se non è vero, è ben trovato: I was told by friends of mine studying medicine, that a certain step in the ladder to becoming chief of medicine was absolutely horrible. That was so, because the position of chief of medicine seems to have incredible advantages. The reason why this will never change is because all are hoping one day to be chief of medicine, and that would not be half as cool if we make the system more just.

We all were told that we where gonna be rock-stars, and that if we failed at it at least we were gonna be successful and have nice stuff. We all defend to a certain degree the rights of the oppressors, because one day we hope to be oppressors too. But if class aligns with interests, and we share interests with the plutocrats, then there is only one class. The end of history. We are all part of the petite bourgeoisie.

Yeah, not really. Interests can be contradictory. Some interests are only desires. But the thing is, we should not strive to be oppressors. It’s not going to make us happy anyway. But if you want to change things, don’t (just) fight the powerful. Their power stems in great part from our self destructive desires. Freedom starts in the mind of the mass, everything else should just fall by its own weight after that.
